When Ethan seeks Emma out to buy the movie rights to her novel, they fall so passionately in love their lives are turned upside down.
Emma wants to be with Ethan, but there’s her son to consider and the secrets she’s kept to protect him. She’ll do anything to keep her little boy’s world safe and happy.
She’d even give up the love of her life.

He kissed me. Ethan Wise, number five on People magazine’s Most Beautiful list, kissed me, Emma Winnifred Barton.
You’d think I was someone special or something.
With her son asleep in the backseat, Emma and Ethan cruised down the old highway toward a restaurant where she’d waited tables when she first came to Utah. When the melody on the radio struck a joyful chord, she hummed the chorus in a voice that was almost never on key. If he minded, she couldn’t tell. Ethan sat in the passenger’s seat of her Subaru with the window down and a spring breeze blowing through his hair. His bright eyes twinkled with the same euphoria that had overtaken Emma when their lips locked. She reached for Ethan’s hand; she needed to know that he wasn’t a dream. When they reached a red stoplight, he leaned in, kissing her with a passion that robbed her lungs of air and sent her heart into an orbit where she struggled to breathe.
“You okay?” he whispered.
Emma nodded, willing her heart to slow as the light changed and she pressed down on the accelerator. Okay was the wrong word—perfect more accurately described everything she felt with him. Emma couldn’t have written a more idyllic scene if she’d tried.

Interview & Contest The Palisades Ronald J. Wichers

What nameless thing sustains us? Religion? What does it mean to be religious? And what sort of woman would faithfully minister to the needs of a dying husband, a man who has neglected her and betrayed her? A woman with no ties to any religious tradition.
And how many among us would remain loyal to a nation embroiled in a war that many believe should never have been allowed to happen—a conflict in which the mightiest nation on earth waged war on one of the very poorest?
And what is faith? Is it only rote learning of prayers and hymns, moral laws and historical facts? Or is it something that only a few among us are given—a seeking of something, of someone that resides in the heart of all things?
Take the journey through The Palisades and wonder.

Welcome Ronald, Thank you for joining us. A common misconception entwined with authors is that they are socially inept, how true is that?

Not at all. Avoid making generalizations. For writers, it’s especially a bad habit to form because, if it pervades his or her thinking, can lead to stereotyping of fiction characters.

Do all authors have to be grammar Nazis?

One’s own grammar should be more than adequate to aid the writer in easy-to-read sentence construction, especially for complex thoughts or images. But they should mind their own business, when it comes to other’s usage. Not only is it impolite but a writer might miss some potential fiction characters’ picturesque turn of phrase.

If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
I don’t know…the Bible? Or Britannica? Can’t think of any….

What makes this particular genre you are involved in so special?

The two genres I am fortunate to know something about, war and religion, are basic to the World at large and of universal importance. War because, sadly, it remains an interminable hardship which has touched virtually every generation since the beginning of time; and religion, an endeavor of peoples everywhere which, while offering an alternative to war is, all too often, ironically one of the most frequent causes of war.

How important is research to you when writing a book?

Little to none. I work from memory.

What works best for you: Typewriters, fountain pen, dictate, computer or longhand?

I use the word processor app, Word. I did write one novel manuscript in longhand; and it worked very well.

New Release and Free Ebook - Illusion (Dark Musicals Book 5) by Laura DeLuca

Rebecca Hope-Patko and her husband, Lord Justyn, are living their dream. After a successful stint on Broadway, the super couple are heading Down Under for a special showing of Phantom Returns, where their son Erik will join them for his professional debut.
As soon as their plane touches down, they discover that a serial killer is stalking Melbourne. At the theater, a strange series of accidents leaves Rebecca fearing for the safety of her family. Rebecca struggles to unravel the mystery while coping with insecurities about her career which cause tension between her and Justyn.
It’s clear a very real Phantom is lurking among them, but Rebecca is no kid anymore. She’s tired of the villain getting the upper hand. This time, Rebecca is setting the trap. This opera diva will put her life and her marriage on the line to shatter the illusions surrounding Queen’s Theater and stop the serial killer before they can strike again.
The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card. Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars-Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist. Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty-first century phantom finally be revealed.

Interview -

1.      What was your hardest scene to write?

Throughout the series, Breakfield and Burkey have several complex scenes which can take longer to come together. When a complex scene doesn’t fit it may take several back and forth exchanges between us to get it right.
We outline our stories in advance and have the overall direction we wish to take the story. All of the characters which contribute to the story, or all the locations, or even all the barriers to the goals are not in place before we write. These elements of the story unfold as the chapters are written and characters decide what they want to do.  This is why for us a key element of putting a story together involves literary ping pong where we share the story back and forth until it has the right balance.
In The Enigma Always we had a chapter which was created really early in the story’s writing but had no place in the outline of where we thought it might go. It was moved, as we recall, at least 20 times before it was placed in the right area of the story. Yet it provides a lesson learned element for one of our favorite returning characters, Petra. Your followers can certainly let us know when they listen or read that portion and provide feedback on the placement of that chapter.

2.      Do you Google yourself?

Sometimes following a marketing campaign or a book tour, we will Google our names or the book targeted in the effort to see if we are visible sooner. Not often though as we are so busy trying to complete our tasks or write the next chapter.
Google and other elements of the Internet are a unending sea of Big Data. The various algorithms Bots used by all the vendor tools are updated and refined continually. We believe that Big Data and machine learning to allow better automation may be directing more than just our buying choices as we move forward. Toward that end Breakfield and Burkey are exploring some of the technology landmines we may be creating for ourselves with technology adaptation in the next story of the series with our working title, The Enigma A.I. Wars.
Technology is moving so fast and adopted by people across industries in differing ways. The results can vary as much as the people using it. It is an exciting time with endless possibilities but also a terrifying time with unwanted consequences. The question becomes how much control in choice will each of us have in the near future.

3.      What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?

This part of the problem of balancing a professional technology career with storytelling. Each of these activities actually feed the other to one degree or another. At this point Breakfield and Burkey just want it all!
Okay, one exception if the series was pick up for a serious movie deal and we were required to be a part of the production, traveling all over the world, and meeting people, Breakfield and Burkey agree to give up their regular professional careers.

4.      What are your favorite literary journals?

We tend to like Fortune magazine for the financial and economics of the planet and Dark Reading for the newest technical exploit being used by the cyber bad guys.  Webinars are also big and important sources of new technology being served up.  This helps build the literary soup we draw from when building our stories.
We have been following digital magazines that highlight books and reviews in the various media. Kirkus Reviews ( are available on all our stories and The Enigma Source was recently featured in the yearend magazine distributed to libraries, agents, publishers, and others interested in recent books.  Audiobook Reviewers ( has reviewed our audio books and we have been awarded multiple 5-star reviews and the ABR Choice Award. InD’tale Magazine ( another source we look at for capturing new book reviews has review several of our audiobooks and eBooks awarding us Crowned Heart status and even a RONE Finalist for The Enigma Factor audio book.  These are great sources to check out current releases or see what books have historically rate high with established reviewers.

Wicked Origins by Paula Black

I have no idea what’s happening to me.
When a tornado dropped my car in a land of short, wild people, I was shocked. With no way to get home, no idea where I was and no clue how to communicate with the muchkins, I was completely out of luck. Then I found out that my car had landed on someone and killed them. Supposedly she was the Wicked Witch of the East.
If that wasn’t bad enough, now her ruby slippers magically appear on my feet, and slowly, I’m becoming her.
Now I need to get to Emerald City and see the Wizard if I want to stop the transformation and return home. But the yellow brick road is no cake-walk, and I don’t know what I’ll find at the end of this journey. Luckily, I have three brothers I meet along the way to help me on my journey. Each of them is vying for my affection, as if it doesn’t matter that my skin is turning green.
Wicked Origins is a modern YA Reverse-Harem Fantasy Retelling of L. Frank Baum’s original Oz tales.
