Interview -

1.      What was your hardest scene to write?

Throughout the series, Breakfield and Burkey have several complex scenes which can take longer to come together. When a complex scene doesn’t fit it may take several back and forth exchanges between us to get it right.
We outline our stories in advance and have the overall direction we wish to take the story. All of the characters which contribute to the story, or all the locations, or even all the barriers to the goals are not in place before we write. These elements of the story unfold as the chapters are written and characters decide what they want to do.  This is why for us a key element of putting a story together involves literary ping pong where we share the story back and forth until it has the right balance.
In The Enigma Always we had a chapter which was created really early in the story’s writing but had no place in the outline of where we thought it might go. It was moved, as we recall, at least 20 times before it was placed in the right area of the story. Yet it provides a lesson learned element for one of our favorite returning characters, Petra. Your followers can certainly let us know when they listen or read that portion and provide feedback on the placement of that chapter.

2.      Do you Google yourself?

Sometimes following a marketing campaign or a book tour, we will Google our names or the book targeted in the effort to see if we are visible sooner. Not often though as we are so busy trying to complete our tasks or write the next chapter.
Google and other elements of the Internet are a unending sea of Big Data. The various algorithms Bots used by all the vendor tools are updated and refined continually. We believe that Big Data and machine learning to allow better automation may be directing more than just our buying choices as we move forward. Toward that end Breakfield and Burkey are exploring some of the technology landmines we may be creating for ourselves with technology adaptation in the next story of the series with our working title, The Enigma A.I. Wars.
Technology is moving so fast and adopted by people across industries in differing ways. The results can vary as much as the people using it. It is an exciting time with endless possibilities but also a terrifying time with unwanted consequences. The question becomes how much control in choice will each of us have in the near future.

3.      What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?

This part of the problem of balancing a professional technology career with storytelling. Each of these activities actually feed the other to one degree or another. At this point Breakfield and Burkey just want it all!
Okay, one exception if the series was pick up for a serious movie deal and we were required to be a part of the production, traveling all over the world, and meeting people, Breakfield and Burkey agree to give up their regular professional careers.

4.      What are your favorite literary journals?

We tend to like Fortune magazine for the financial and economics of the planet and Dark Reading for the newest technical exploit being used by the cyber bad guys.  Webinars are also big and important sources of new technology being served up.  This helps build the literary soup we draw from when building our stories.
We have been following digital magazines that highlight books and reviews in the various media. Kirkus Reviews (https://www.kirkusreviews.com/) are available on all our stories and The Enigma Source was recently featured in the yearend magazine distributed to libraries, agents, publishers, and others interested in recent books.  Audiobook Reviewers (https://audiobookreviewer.com/) has reviewed our audio books and we have been awarded multiple 5-star reviews and the ABR Choice Award. InD’tale Magazine (https://www.indtale.com/) another source we look at for capturing new book reviews has review several of our audiobooks and eBooks awarding us Crowned Heart status and even a RONE Finalist for The Enigma Factor audio book.  These are great sources to check out current releases or see what books have historically rate high with established reviewers.

Someone seems to have misplaced the booster necessary for stabilizing his superpower. Without it, Edger has three days before his brain turns to pudding. Join our Dork of Destiny as he overcomes the world’s greatest butt, two rival Cluck-n-Pray gangs, an evil cow, a Green Bay Defensive Tackle, rifle-toting assassins—and a pair of stoners who inadvertently create the world’s first supervillain after a wild night on Twitter!

About the Cynthia Roberts –
My love of reading romance fiction goes back to those early years when I was raising a young family. It wasn’t until Cynthiaphotomuch later in life I actually took up the pen to write my first historical romance, Wind Warrior. I really don’t fit into one specific niche. Once a story starts to flow, it’s only then I know what genre/subgenre it will fit under.
I have only one regret, and that is not getting to this point in my career much sooner, rather than later. Life has a way of setting up road blocks, which for me, was supposed to work out that way. Because of those detours, I have become a more passionate and expressive writer, allowing me to create the kind of raw human emotion I want my readership to feel. It is my hope you walk away with not just an entertaining read, but the importance in knowing,
“Without imagination & dreams, we lose the excitement of wonderful possibilities.”

Dumbest Thieves, Thugs & Rogues Guest Post Professor Birdsong

Hello to all the readers out there. Let me answer a couple of questions that readers are curious about. Namely, readers often ask am I a real law professor and am I really a lawyer? Well folks the answers are: yes, and yes! I graduated from Harvard Law School, passed the Bar Examination and went to work for four years for the law firm of Baker Hostetler, a large nationwide law firm where I did tax and litigation work. I now teach at the Barry University School of Law in Florida.

So, some people then ask how did you get to be a law professor and why? These are fair questions and I will try to answer them for you with this post.

I had a wonderful twenty- five year career as a trial lawyer and a diplomat. After my four years with the Baker Hostetler law firm I was recruited by the U.S. State Department to be a Foreign Service Officer. My first two overseas assignments were in Nigeria. After my second assignment in Nigeria I transferred over to the U.S. Department of Justice to work in my hometown of Washington, D.C. as a federal prosecutor for the District of Columbia where I worked for five years. I then spent a sixth year on assignment as a federal prosecutor to the U.S. Virgin Islands. I then transferred back to the U.S. State Department and resumed my work as a Foreign Service Officer with postings in Hamburg, Germany and Nassau Bahamas.

After my Bahamas tour I decided to leave government service and open my own law practice in Washington, D.C. where I did mainly trial work that centered on criminal law defense and representation of clients seeking political asylum in the United States. After ten years of practice and numerous trials, I thought about slowing down a bit and wished to do some teaching and writing. In 1998, I got the chance to come on board at a new Florida law school – Barry University School of Law. I have been here ever since. Barry allows me to write and teach. It is a wonderful job. The legal and diplomatic experience I received over the years have helped me to become a good teacher. I hope to continue teaching and writing humor books for a few more years.
Dumbestthieves, thugs, and rogues book tourNEW thieves thugs rogues cover draft 1 (2)The Professor has delighted in telling you stories from his first two book series, Dumbest Criminal Law Stories and Weird Criminal Law Stories. Now he writes for fun and  your enjoyment in his latest, Professor Birdsong’s Dumbest Thieves, Thugs, & Rogues. These stories are some of the best from around the world and should bring you many good laughs. For instance:
A thief in Phoenix just released from County jail on drug charges ran laps around the jail celebrating his freedom, then tried to carjack a truck belonging to the jail.
The Miami man arrested for stealing a corpse from a casket at a funeral home. An Orlando bandit who broke into a convenience store by bashing in the front door with his head.
The awkward thief who burglarized an Albuquerque home only to be confronted by the 66-year- old wife and her 70-year- old husband who held him at gunpoint in his car loaded with their household possession until police arrived.
The San Jose thug who confessed to murder by cutting out the middle man and presented himself to the Santa Clara County jail with his confession.
An impatient Wendy’s drive-thru customer in Chicago, so hungry he opened fire on another driver who tried to cut in front of him;
The thug who was sentenced to a year in jail for trying to sell a backpack of dirty socks as marijuana.
The Norwegian prisoner gone rogue who used a surfboard to escape from an island prison.
A Frenchman suspended from his job with pay for 12 years who sought compensation of $500,000 because he claimed his career was ruined.
And so many other stories about dumb thieve, thugs, and rogues that will make you laugh out loud.
