August by Amarie Avant

August Reiss Seven years ago, the love of my life and my parents died a robbery gone wrong. Do you know what that can do to a professionally trained hitman? Now, I work for a government organization, my next assignment is to infiltrate the Marchand’s crew. The information is vague. But what takes the cake, is that the family “business” of crooks I’m to investigate, includes a Bajan little sister whose lips are the definition of sex and trouble. And yet Natalia’s soft curves are off limits—not because her brothers will bash my head in.     No, she is capable of offing me herself. Natalia Marchand  Anything a man can do, I can do it better. I’ve lived by that credo my entire life, and with my dangerous ‘job’ it’s always been true. I’m a rich man’s kryptonite, I can pretend to desire you, and then execute a plan to take all you own. My brother’s and I live a dangerous lifestyle. Then in walks muscles, murky green eyes, and a cocky smile. August needs a place to stay, and he’s saved my kid brother’s life. Now, he’s a god to my brothers. Can he really be trusted? But I'll put a bullet to his head if he proves my intuition is right.

I take a glance in the small oval mirror by the door and check my smoky eye shadow, dredged in blues, greens and black, long fake lashes and my blood red lips. My eighties rock hair is totally kick ass, teased out big and wide. I have enough glitter on my skin and hair that it’ll take three showers to wash it off. It’s one of the only times I won’t wear a wig on stage.
I’m ready to set the stage ablaze. Too bad Michael won’t see this. It’s my best performance dance ever. What the fuck am I thinking about him for? Get your head out of your ass, Jazz. You’re here to make the money!
Bea passes me, stops short and whistles in appreciation. “Oh chica. You’re going to light up that stage. Knock them dead, rock chick.” She ends in a near shout, giving me air kisses.
“Thanks, Bea.” I smile with enthusiasm. I love being on stage. Not for the stripping part but for the dance. The exhilaration of the performing art has always been my passion.
She squeezes my shoulder for an extra measure of support and saunters off.
I take another quick glance at the rambunctious crowd, measuring what I’m about to deal with and spot Michael right up front and center by the stage. I stumble backward and feel my chest compress out all the air in my lungs.

The Simple Soul of Susan Book Review

“Simple is as simple loves.”
Susan Combs had long ago found the love of her life. The only problem was the other party still didn’t know he had been found.
Every day Susan saw Calder Hurtz, her next door neighbor and childhood best friend. They always enjoyed the short drive to school down the dusty streets of their small Texas town. She was happy in those perfect moments, for her life at home was most imperfect. The challenging homestead she inhabited was also the favorite subject of local gossip.
But one autumn day she overhears two boys having a conversation. This occasion of accidental audience sets Susan’s life on an unforeseen path. In the seasons to come, her future will be changed by two hospitalizations, two confessions of love, and one betrayal.
Compulsively readable, The Simple Soul of Susan is an engaging, soul-endearing romance and a mesmerizing debut.

Review by Diane
I have really enjoyed this story! Such a true to life experience with two great families! Calder and Susan grew up next door being such great friends. Susan loved Calder but never let him know and watched him with many girls but they just remained friends! Susan was a very shy girl that the girls made fun of and she was a very smart girl academically but socially had a hard time fitting in! See what happens to both Calder and Susan when finally Calder realizes that Susan is the one for him but things aren't always as they seem! Read this book you will enjoy it I know I did!
I received a copy of this for my honest review, no other compensation was received.

Goodnight Kisses Excerpt by Wilhelmina Stolen

GoodnightkissestourbannerJPEG cover for Goodnight KissesFearing she carries her mother’s curse of marriage, nineteen-year-old Eleanor Mackenna swore never to vow herself into matrimonial bondage. Nuptials aren’t needed where true love is concerned. A concept she is sure a man like McCrea Coldiron would agree with. The town gossip has him pegged as a heart breaker, but Eleanor knows a different side to McCrea. And years of loving him without seeing his affection returned has made her desperate enough to ask him for advice on seducing a man. ??
McCrea isn’t proud of his reputation as a brawler and a womanizer. As a teenager the rumors were funny, now they may cost him the land he has worked so hard for. Chatty little Eleanor Mackenna has been chasing his spurs for years and ignoring her was easy to do until she grew up. A beautiful face and curves in all the right places made her hard to resist, and when his granddad lays down an ultimatum to make her his wife, McCrea
offers her a first class lesson in seduction.?
Their date ending in more than good night kisses was everything McCrea promised it would be, but his sudden withdraw, and cold reaction to her confession of love reveal his true motives. A business arrangement with
benefits.
Excerpt - Louisa leaned to one side, and bumped Eleanor with her shoulder. “I have no idea what you see in McCrea.”
Jess poked his head into the narrow space between them. “Me neither. You could do so much better.”
Louisa put a finger to her brothers’ forehead, and pushed him backward. “You’re annoying. You know that?”
“Maybe.” Without warning, he plucked Eleanor from the railing, tossed her over his shoulder, and spun her around, smacking her bottom. “But I am fun.”
She shielded her backside with both hands and his hat tumbled to the ground. “Stop that! Put me down!”
He hauled her around to the front of him, and grinned. “Come on, El. Let me be your date.”
Struggling against his strong hold was futile. She was his prisoner until the game was over. “No, I’m not going to be a pity date. I’ll ask Conner.”
Like a ragdoll, he lifted her off the ground, took her hand, and spun her around in a grand waltz. “Oh, that kid’s not a threat to McCrea.”
She laughed at the dance. “And you are?”
He let her slide to the ground and whirled her out. “Hell, yeah. You know that I’m a ladies’ man.”

Character Interview ~ Chief Elias McAvoy Forgetting Jane by CJ Warrant

ForgettingJanetourbanner
Character Interview ~ Chief Elias McAvoy Forgetting Jane by CJ Warrant
Thank you for joining us today Chief McAvoy. Can you tell us why you became a cop?    I signed up for the Marines and scored well in my ASVAB test, and got to choose what MOS I wanted. So I picked military police. The moment I started training, I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. To help people.

If you didn’t live in Beaver Creek, where would you want to live? Half Moon Bay California. After I got out of the military, I followed my friend out to where he grew up and instantly fell in love with the area.

Did you feel a connection to Jane immediately? The second I saw her face. I knew I had to keep her safe. And well, you would have to read the book to find out.

Why don’t you like people calling you Chief? I’m not worth of the title.

Do ghosts freak you out? I don’t believe in ghosts.

Why did Harold and Raymond fight over the dog, traitor? Traitor is Raymond’s black Lab, but the dog only listens to Harold. So that pisses Raymond off to no end. Actually, the brothers fight all the time for the stupidest crap.

If you can do one thing different in your life, what would that be? I think if I changed one thing in my life, I wouldn’t have met Jane. But If I had to choose…then drinking.

If you can’t be a cop, what other profession would you like to do? If I can’t be cop, then I probably open up a business of some sort—but I really haven’t thought about not being a cop.

Forgetting Jane-002-2
Amnesia and an unspeakable crime have stolen everything from Jane Doe except the haunting image of a girl in a yellow dress, which replays itself over and over in her mind.
Small town cop Elias McAvoy is haunted as well, by the crushing guilt he feels over the deaths of two women, one by his own hand. He can’t-he won’t-let Jane down too.
Together they delve deeper into Jane’s case, battling against her memory loss, and an increasingly tangled web of lies and murder that span forty years-and ties Elias and Jane together in ways they never imagined. As the mystery of the girl in the yellow dress unfold, so does Elias and Jane’s love for each other. However, when the killer reappears, intent on finishing what he started, Elias must face his demons in order to save the woman he loves or lose her forever.

Excerpt-
I’m going to check on the trails. I didn’t get a chance to close them all the way.” Sherri tapped the edge of the phone and watched the road.
“Well, it’s no wonder. You had a busy day yesterday. Check and see if there’s any further beetle damage, too, please. I’ve been fielding calls from ranchers all week, asking me if it’s true. Beetles scare them, but apparently a woman warning them is even scarier.” He sighed. “Keep me updated.” Subtle feminism bothered her but at least it was something that didn’t keep Barry from hiring a woman.
“Sure, thanks, Barry.” She hung up, placing her phone on the passenger seat. She hadn’t slept well with worried thoughts about how she felt for Kyle and what kind of worry Cyan and everyone else seemed to have for Emma. Emma herself seemed more normal than everyone else.
A car pulled in behind her on the road from the intersection she passed. Tight on her bumper, the car stuck with her. She waved them around, but they didn’t move.
She took the next left, turning up the road, passing Jonesy’s Acres and keeping an eye out for Kyle. She wouldn’t mind seeing him again, especially so soon after their time together the day before.
He liked her, even though they didn’t have much in common. The fact that he was willing to work on things they had in common mattered more than she could tell him.
She pulled to the side to let the car pass, but the vehicle slowed and didn’t move on. Sherri clutched the wheel and pulled out again. The road was too narrow. She’d never get turned around without getting stuck in a ditch. Maybe the other car was going further than the trails. She couldn’t get out of the truck, if the other car stopped when she did. After that incident with Kyle at the cinemas, she didn’t trust that people weren’t completely off their saddles.
Trees bordering the road pulled back from the shoulder as the turnout to the gravel parking lot came into view.
Turning the wheel, Sherri muttered to know one in particular, “Keep driving. Creepy…” But her words trailed off when the car stopped and then sped down the road.
“Okay, whatever. So dang weird.” But they’d driven on. She left the truck in her normal parking spot and grabbed a water bottle from the back. The day was turning out to be a hot one already.
Turning the knob to the radio, she listened for the familiar buzz, but the radio light didn’t even flash on. She forgot to charge the radio unit in all the commotion the night before between the horse and Emma’s place.
Sherri closed her eyes and bowed her head. What was she doing? She tucked her phone in her pocket and clipped the fanny pack around her waist. Already a trickle of sweat made its way down the small of her back and under her shirt tucked into her jeans.
Locking the doors, she turned at the sound of a different truck pulling into the parking area. She smiled and approached the tinted window as the rig moved onto the gravel. Closing the trail would be easier, if she just tamped down any visitors from the get-go.

AP - Synopsis.jpg

A gilded cage is still a cage.

From the womb, she was owned. Shula Kelley was signed away before her first breath, just like everyone else in secessionist Texas. She was called beautiful like it meant something important. Like it would get her a kind husband, or one less cruel. She hoped Jared Agnesson was kind.

And the devil you know is still the devil.

As punishment for his son's rebellion, the patriarch of the Agnesson clan claimed Shula for his own. And she saw only one way out. Shula had a plan, but she didn't realize it would require a savior.

Suffer not the sins of the father.

First acts of rebellion open doors that are best left closed. Until Jared walked through it. Her savior. But how can she truly love when she only knows obedience?

My review: I was honestly sucked into this book. Despite the fact that it could be confusing at times, the characters were awesome. Shula was who I would be if I was stuck in this testosterone laden society. The patriarch of the clan that is featured in this book reminds me of a certain person running for president right now. It's eerie. He is a sadist. He values women in the same way a cattle farmer would. He wants an Arian society and the lengths he goes to in his mission is just chilling. There are five boys. The main ones in the book are Josiah, Jude and Jared. They are raised in the most sexually repressed, male dominated society. Reading the difference of each one of their relationships with their wives ( who were chosen for them) or lack thereof in Josiah's case was one of my favorite parts of the book. Josiah kind of just "made" a wife out of need. The book was fantastic up until the end. I got really confused what happened to the characters. It seemed to end ubruptly but the copy I had was an arc so it might be different when it goes to print. It's definitely worth the read though. You become so invested in the characters.

He had been told long before he was to take a bride that it was important–imperative–to assert his place on top of her, between spread thighs, claiming relentlessly that which belonged to him. Her opinion forever insignificant.
He had never been told that a thirst so indelible could suffocate every blessed second. That an unsated hunger would leave him unsettled and a little terrified.
That he would need those same thighs to spread for want of him.
It had been several months, but the gift of her was still overwhelming.
“Did your mother ever call you Shulamith,” Jared asked innocently. He had been watching her for a short time as she methodically and efficiently chopped the onions, carrots, and potatoes for their stew. She was more adept with the large knife than even he was. He wasn't quite sure why kitchen work made such a difference. Maybe it didn't, and Shula was just very good with her hands.
He didn't know why he enjoyed watching it.
She gasped as the knife slipped from her grasp and she nicked the tip of her fingertip holding down an onion. He was at her side grasping her hand with muttered apologies. He had meant to shock her with his new found knowledge, but he hadn't meant to hurt her. She pressed her lips together, because she didn't want to complain.
She gasped again when he pressed her finger in his mouth. “I won't tell anyone,” he whispered.
“How did you find out?” She was afraid she might cry. She hated being named for a harem girl. She liked to believe that her mother did it to make a point.
“I didn't really. Your name. Shula. I've never heard it. I looked through some genealogy information online and no one on either your mother or your father's side shared that name. But, everyone had sacred names. First and middle. I saw a smudge by yours.”
“Father. He was ashamed. He tried to change it. But, it was too long–”
“Shh. Not now. Later.” His hands moved to both hips. He gripped tightly, and lifted her easily onto the counter. She sucked in a breath and held onto him tightly. The light in the room was waning, but it was the brightest light he'd ever been so close to her in.
He loved it when she was supplicant under him, trying to hide, trying not to spread her legs wider. He loved that by the end, she's panting in his mouth, with her hands gripping his shoulders tightly. She was his completely, and he never had to ask. She just gave.
He found himself wanting her to want him. Was it fair for him to ask for that when she hadn't a choice previously? He frowned and stepped back a few inches.
She dropped her hands from his shoulders. “Have I done something to...displease you?”
He opened his mouth, then closed it. It took a few moments to speak. “You are my wife.”
She nodded, unsure of his point.
“We didn't get to choose, but I was happy at the wedding, unexpected though it was.” He stepped in close to her again, and her legs spread for him. He pressed both fists on either side of her hips. “You were my punishment, and I think it's the grandest cosmic joke ever.”

Release date: January 30, 2016

All that separates them...is a century or two.

Werewolf Rafe Garrett is second-in-command of a twenty-third century special ops team, sent back to present day Seattle to stop a group of renegade vampires from destroying the U.S. and causing the deaths of millions of innocent people. He has a personal vendetta, too. The renegades' leader is the same bloodsucker who murdered Rafe’s pregnant wife.

Few humans can stake a vampire on their first try, but Stacy Cadell is that kind of gal—a ball of fire in a cool, petite package. Caught in the battle between vampires and werewolves, Stacy hides her true identity from both sides, fearing it could be used against her. But protecting her heart from the werewolf warrior with the killer good looks, is a fight she’s sure to lose.

Especially when she learns that, for history to correct itself, she must sacrifice the one person she holds most dear.

Contains: Hunky, alpha werewolves running around naked, sensual love scenes and mature language. If you read sweet romance, try CRAZY FOR COWBOY, or one of the novels from the series ‘A Frost Family Christmas.’

Read an excerpt:
At the far edge of consciousness, Rafe heard the wisp of material. Then felt a searing weight on his wound. His body jackknifed, his shoulders shooting off the mattress. “What the hell are you doing, woman?”
“Applying pressure. Relax.”
How could he? Stacy had removed her blouse and was using it on him as a dressing. And her camisole? She’d wrapped it around his shoulder to hold the impromptu bandage in place. That left her naked from the waist up, except for a hardly-there lacy bra, breasts spilling over the top.
He wasn’t dead yet, but he’d definitely gone to heaven. He reached up and cradled the weight of her. She slid out of his grasp, while keeping a hand on his shoulder.
“You’re not willing to give a dying man his last wish?”
Her eyes rounded then crinkled at the sides as her mouth curved. “I’m going to assume you’re delirious and forgive you for copping a feel.”
No denying it. He was lightheaded. But he sure didn’t regret touching her breast—the skin firm but soft, the tip hardening against his palm. Maybe he could talk her into letting him have a taste.
“A taste of what?”
He stared at her, confused. Had he actually spoken his request aloud? He focused on her wide, blue, trusting eyes…her full pink lips.
She must have managed to ease the bleeding. His senses were returning. Even his dick showed signs of life. He slipped his hand into her hair, twining the strands around his fingers, and gently pulled her down to him.
“I’d love a taste of you.”

My first love was the theater. And my greatest professional thrill was acting on the same stage as Sarah Bernhardt—though not in the same century. I’ve had small parts in a few movies and TV shows, including the hit programs HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS and DEGRASSI JUNIOR HIGH.

Writing is rather similar to acting, I believe. Except I get to play ALL the characters…while wearing my PJs and sipping tea. What could be better?

I’m married to my first love—a wonderful guy. So I don’t just write romance, I live it!
